Just on the heels of the success of last summer’s ‘Pillow Talk’ remixes, Heather Johnson has returned to Loveslap! with ‘Pretty’, another beautiful ballad which is sure to resonate with fans of her songwriting and angelic vocal style.

Like a bight star or a budding sunflower, Heather Johnson stands out from the bunch. We cannot say enough about the way she opens herself up on this record to share her feelings about sharing her love. Mark Grant’s remix is a dance floor burner – big kicks, snapping percussion, driving bass and swinging keys. Bumping, bass heavy and soulful. Mauricio Aviles is a San Francisco based deejay and producer who is always name-checked for his influence on what has become known as the ‘San Francisco Sound’. Maurico has visited every corner of the globe with his record box and achieved a good deal of international acclaim for his ‘Naked Music Nude Dimensions II’ mix compilation.

Marlon D stopped through to school us on some east coast flavor when he was in California recently.

Marlon played us the beat he had written and explained his concept for a heavy, big-room spoken vocal track which called out to ‘The Dancer’ by describing their behaviors from his (deejay) point of view. He wanted to do a track celebrating New York’s speaker children.

Marlon called the shots with Charles on the desk…

First came some pulsing keyboard stabs and an acid bass line. Then Marlon grabbed his notebook and hopped in the vocal booth to bring this sweaty stomper to life.

Marlon’s tone and cadence instantly made it clear where he wanted to go - he was speaking directly to ‘The Dancer’. His message made it clear what was left to do musically.

Charles Spencer gets this tune keyed up for a heavy, big-room broadcast. His melody is swinging and hypnotic, hopelessly moving ‘The Dancer’ along.

‘The Dancer’ has received strong support from east coast deejay’s including Jellybean Benitez and was one of Traxsource’s most popular downloads when it was first available as a promo.
